The Stellenbosch Art law clinic began as a collaborative student initiative between Stellenbosch University and the University of Münster. Our German colleagues established a clinic to provide legal advice to art students at the university, with their efforts eventually manifesting into two books that serve as a guide for artists to the law. The project was a great success with the team expanding its reach beyond university students to practicing young artists. They have since established clinics in Germany, Austria, China, and now South Africa.

 

Our South African team is student-oriented, with all of our work and research being provided by our students of the Stellenbosch Law faculty. We have been following the path of our German partners and are currently developing a booklet to serve as a guide to artists on South African art law. As a student-based organisation, we undergo legal research in order to provide legal information to artists with legal questions.
